Replacing Procedure

When you need to replace a print head, follow the procedure below.

Important

• Do not touch the electrical contacts (A) or print head nozzle (B) on a print head. The printer may not print properly if you touch them.

  

• Replace a print head immediately and do not leave the printer with the print head removed.

1. Check that printer is turned on.

2. Open scanning unit / cover (C).

   

   Important

   • If the ink stains the print head and/or the inside of the printer, wipe them using a soft cloth dampened with water before installation. Be careful not to get ink on your clothing or surroundings when replacing the print head.

   • Do not touch the metallic parts or other parts inside the printer.

3. Press and hold the Stop button for 5 seconds.

   The print head (cartridge) holder moves to the left.

4. Press and hold the Stop button again for 5 seconds.

   The print head (cartridge) holder moves to the print head replacement position.

   Caution

   • Do not hold the print head (cartridge) holder to stop or move it forcibly while the print head (cartridge) holder is working. Do not touch the print head (cartridge) holder until it stops completely.

5. Be sure to open the ink tank covers (D)(E).

   Important

   • If you perform the following replacement procedures without opening the ink tank covers, you may not be able to print properly. Do not close the ink tank covers until you have replaced the print head.

   

6. Remove the print head.

   1. Pinch the tabs and open the print head locking cover (F).

      
      

   2. Pull the print head (G) and shift it slightly toward you.

      

   3. Take out the print head.

      

   Important

   • Handle the print head carefully to avoid staining of clothing or the surrounding area.

7. Prepare a new print head.

   1. Take a new print head out of its package and peel the label (H) gently.

      Install the print head C (color) in the left print head (cartridge) holder and the print head B (black) in the right print head (cartridge) holder. Make sure to check the label and install the print heads correctly.

      

   2. Remove the protective tape (I) gently.

      

   Important

   • Do not touch the electrical contacts or print head nozzle on a print head. The printer may not print properly if you touch them.

8. Install the print head.

   1. Put a new print head in the print head (cartridge) holder.

      

   2. Close the print head locking cover to lock the print head into place.

      Push down the print head locking cover until it clicks.

      

9. Push the joint buttons (J).

   

   Important

   • Push down the joint buttons until they click. The printer may not print.

   • Check that both the left and right joint buttons are pushed down.

10. Close the ink tank covers.

    

11. Close the scanning unit / cover.

    To close the scanning unit / cover, hold it up once, then take it down gently.

    

    Note

    • If the error code appears on the LCD after the scanning unit / cover is closed, take appropriate action.

      • An Error Occurs

    • If the print head is out of alignment, as indicated by misaligned printed ruled lines or similar symptoms, adjust the print head position.
